This data revealed that the traction system on the CT-EMS traction splint is far superior to that of the KTD. This is due to the 4:1 purchase system that employs a small block and line mechanism at the end of the splint. For every pound of traction pulled on the line, 4 pounds are exerted on the foot. For every inch of line pulled, the patients leg is only tractioned 1/4in.
Therefor the traction is very precise and easy to adjust. Even if you have a large patient, sufficient traction can still be achieved. Furthermore, if you have a long transport time, more or less traction can easily be adjusted.
